On the plane trip with baby thing, I've done it a few times and I'm sure your family will have plenty of tips for you. I had to do it by myself the first time and was really worried about how terrible it might end up being. I don't know if your little one takes a pacifier, but it is heaven-sent on the plane if he does. Their ears have a hard time adjusting, particularly during take off and landing (or any significant ascent or descent), so this is when they're most likely to be fussy. Sucking on something, like a pacifier, helps their ears to adjust. If he doesn't take one, a bottle works great, as does just nursing him during those times. I had the pacifier on the way there, but lost it on the way back, so I just covered up and nursed her when I needed to. Good luck, it really isn't that bad, and even if it does turn out being difficult, just remember, the flight won't last forever.
