we've been un-plugging for the past little while and it has been so so good for us. and by that, i mean especially crew. the technology these babes are growing up with is so incredible but when you are two years old and want to play candy crush with dad and cry for it and for watching dumbo multiple times a day... something has to be done. i never thought i would have "that child." it's funny too because i feel like i am one of the very few left in the world without a smart phone and i want to keep it that way as long as possible. i'm scared for myself and for the kids always having it at their fingertips and i'm not sure how often i would say "no."
i feel like i've completely fallen off the bandwagon with journaling lately. the last few months so much has happened that is TOTALLY journal worthy and even my personal journal has been horribly neglected. i need to get on top of that asap. hopefully, this will be a jump start for me to get my act together.
* for halloween and we did one of those cheesy family theme things and it was secretly one of my dying wishing so it was awesome in my book. crew was dressed as captain hook, brighton was the cute little crocodile that bit off his hand, i was captain smee, and devin was tinker bell. we had to keep his costume pretty G rated due to the church function we went to!
* i potty trained crew! freaking miracle of my life!! well, he is mostly potty trained. i still have to catch him with the whole dumping in his pants part because -- he absolutely loves pooping in his underwear. but we are getting there. literally after a day and a half of hard core potty training - he totally got it and barely has accidents. i couldn't believe it! i still don't believe it! i want to write more about that one later so i don't forget when BRI baby's time comes around. i tend to forget ALL of the baby stuff and this is one that i have dreaded worse than child delivery sooooo... it's going down in the books!!!
* thanksgiving was the best ever. we had some of our all time favorite people come stay with us in our 5 square foot apartment. it was jam packed but i loved it!!! devin's brother and wife and cousin and wife are THE best company. isn't it the best when your favorite people are family? it's cool because even if they hate you and are sick of your guts they will NEVER be able to get away from you? :)
anyways... they came down for a day or so and we ate a bunch of food, thrift shopped, the kids had some melt downs, the typical. the next night we all packed up our crap in like .2 seconds and headed down the road to mesa. we stayed there and saw more family and LOVED the warm weather and the mesa temple lights. so lovely. literally, i could have looked at them all night.
some of the bet parts of the trip were me wigging out from taking devin's add medicine, crew sleeping in a tiny harry potter closet, a guy getting beat the crap out of at a ghetto thrift store in mesa because he was stealing a shirt that was $2, devin taking the kids on a ride in the car at 530 in the morning when they decided to wake up and then calling me a few hours later and telling me that he actually drove 2 plus hours and was in fact, home HAHA.
life is so good. life is so incredibly hard with two little toddlers a year apart. during the trip, family asked me privately if i would do it differently and wait to have kids and there is no way that i would do that. i love jam packing them together and i'm so glad we didn't wait long. i feel like there is so much fuzz and clutter that could have grown between dev and i before having kids if we had waited. as stupid and backwards as this sounds -- it's so much more simple to have kids quick. the focus truly stays on the family. there's literally no time and energy to get wrapped up in "me" thoughts. don't get me wrong -- i have WAY more than a fair share of poor me, i'm going insane moments (daily) but it's so worth it.
i love these little babes of mine. they make my eyes cracked red and leave my hair totally out of control, but it's such a good way to live. i choose them.
