pregnant with baby # 2 and having emergency surgery

(it's a lovely picture... i know i know...)
yes, if you haven't heard the news- we are having another baby in august! we are thrilled. little did we know this time around would throw us for some major loops.

i am due august 25, i think. so, that makes me 15 weeks. this pregnancy started off much different than with crew, for sure though. with crew i was puking my guts out for 14 weeks straight day and night. once 14 weeks hit - it was this huge transformation and i felt awesome and the rest of my pregnancy was cake! with this little baby, i was showing EARLY, like we are talking 7 weeks "early." is that even normal? i heard the second time around and plus you show sooner and so that's all i assumed it was. i wasn't that pukey my first trimester, just real tired and nauseous.

at 12 weeks we got to have our first ultrasound! man alive, that baby is a wiggler! much more active than crew. while we were at the appointment, we made sure to ask if the cyst i had from my pregnancy with crew had gotten bigger or what the status was - hey, we are just concerned parents here!

(back ground info - while i was pregnant with crew, my first, i had a cyst growing on my right ovary and at times was very painful. the doctors were very concerned that we might have to have surgery on it but they would monitor it and when i hit 20 weeks - it stopped growing. it was a miracle and no surgery needed to be done and i had no more pain.)

sooo... the ultrasound tech looks for .2 seconds and said, nope no cyst! what a relief! or more like what a liar... haha i wish she had looked longer than she had.

a week and a half after my ultrasound, i started having the most intense pain of my life. we are talking worse than popping a nine pound baby out from down under. oh wait, because i've done that. it was much worse than child labor. i'm not just being a pansy!

so, the pains started in my right abdomen sunday night at like 2 am. dev and i are kind of against going to the doctor and hospital unless we have a limb falling off. we're just back-woodsy like that. cute, huh?

as soon as monday morning got there - i thought i was going to die. i went to urgent care. the doctor kept calling me "girl" and told me it wasn't that bad and it was just a muscle pain and sent me on my way. i knew in my gut something wasn't right. literally - in my guts. monday night i started throwing up because the pain got so intense and this went on until tuesday evening. finally then, my OBGYN called me back (she had just had a baby herself, talk about horrible timing for all of this) and told me to go to the ER immediately! so off we went!

after a few tests and going to look at my ultrasound - i was being tossed around the hospital like a hot potato. i felt like i was the cool celebrity of the night or something. i was getting wheeled around the hallways in ultra speed and getting passed around to different nurses. when i got to my room i barely could put on a hospital gown fast enough before i had 5 or 6 nurses barge in and give me an IV, morphine, take my blood, i was signing paper work out the wah-zoo and little did we know what was going on. seriously, we knew NOTHING that was going on.

this truly goes to show because devin kept asking all the nurses where the closest taco bell was because he was dying for a beefy five layer and he kept explaining how delicious it was.

thanks hunny :)

finally, i had 3 doctors come in and explain what was happening:

"you are going to lose your right ovary. you have a cyst the size of a softball in there. to make it worse, it's wrapped around your ovary 4 times. it's already completely dead and we need to go in there NOW. if this had progressed any longer, it would have become toxic to your body and you most likely would have died. the only reason it was detected was because your pregnant. your baby just saved your life."

okay, that was a lot to swallow. dev and i just looked at each other and i burst into tears. i was terrified that we were going in to surgery RIGHT THEN and i was losing a freaking ovary but mostly, i was just so grateful for my baby. and my baby was healthy! what a miracle is that?

this baby is seriously my hero. i cannot wait to meet her them.

my dad rushed down to the ER and waited with dev during the surgery and brought him his beloved beefy five layer. dev was finally relaxing :) the surgery went great and it was a late late night. when i finally got out of the surgery it was probably 3 AM wednesday morning. we stayed at the hospital the rest of the night to be monitored and got to go home the following afternoon.

it's been a little over a week since the surgery and i'm not walking like frankenstein anymore!! i'm feeling so much better and can't even believe how well i'm recovering. i just can't hold crew baby or anything over 10 pounds which is killing me but considering everything, i'll take it. once the swelling in my abdomen started going down - it was funny to see how little my baby belly is now. literally, it's half the size it was before. makes sense because the cyst was bigger than my sweet little baby.

if you have read this far - you are amazing and i can't believe it.

but pretty much to sum everything up - we are so blessed. we are healthy. all 4 of us. i can't wait to meet this little trooper. life is pretty great and i love my little family.

OMGosh, that was almost devastating to read at first but I'm so glad that everything turned out okay. Matt & I are trying to have a baby but my doctor says with my endometriosis and cysts, it's going to be hard. It breaks my heart - but thank heavens for medicine. I'm so happy that you are doing better and I pray for a quick recovery!

I'm so glad you and your tiny baby are ok!! Oh my goodness, I was getting so frustrated with the doctors and nurses just reading about it--people need to clue a sista in, for real. I hope you continue to recover quickly! You'll be in our prayers!

Okay so I know this is an old post, but I'm about to have surgery tomorrow to remove a cyst bigger than a softball, and I'm freaking the heck out. So its good to see you survived. :)
