let's talk about marriage

marriage is hard work. blah blah blah. actually, i don't think it's as hard and crazy as everyone says BUT then again, i am no expert.

i am actually a rookie. a baby rookie at that. our anniversary will be this upcoming sunday. that's right folks, we have both been off the market for two years. two whole years! thats so little huh? but SO exciting!

this is actually not so much a ramble about making a marriage work and loving it, but rather my love story. yes, puke now. BUT it is MY blog so you can just deal with it :)

since i was 16, i loved boys. what 16 year old girl doesn't? let's get serious here. dating was a blast and i had so much fun doing it. in high school, there weren't too many mormon boys to date but i did find a good one that i dated most of high school and we were great buds. when i went off to college, it was like dating heaven. holy cow, so many boys. my eyes were going crazy. boys that believed in the same things as me - it made them 10X hotter. i was loving it. after 4 years of flirty dating and a few serious boyfriends. i was drained. dating was not quite the fun game anymore. i wanted to call it quits.

i actually wanted to go on a mission more than anything. so, i went to my bishop and told him i wanted to start working on my papers. true story. my bishop gave me a blessing and told me, well little lady - i think you need to wait til next semester to start your papers. a mission may not be in your future. i was furious! who was he to tell me that i should wait or not go on a mission at all? afterall, next semester was a month and half away and what could possibly change my mind about going on a mission in that short amount of time?

you got it, a goofy boy from idaho. who would've thought?

he came back to school.

he had been off track in the fall and was back at school. we didn't really know each other, only just in passing. he was the really good looking SHORT player i saw all over campus and according to him, i was the hott blonde security guard at the library.

his best friend, {who was tall} started a basketball team and at the time, i thought HE was cute and i flirted him up so he would invite me to be on his team.

mission accomplished.

i was officially on the team.

then i thought about it for .2 seconds. oh crap, i do NOT play basketball. WHAT WAS I THINKING!?! sure, he might have thought i was cute when he asked me but then he was gonna realize how uncoordinated i was and think i was totally retarded!

oh well. at least it would be fun!

so, we had our first game and i got thrown into the mix. as i had predicted, it was a disaster. i knocked over this girl on the other team so i could get the fowl. yes, i literally pushed her over until she fell on the ground. am i supposed to know the rules or something? well, before i knew it i was benched out of the game. FINALLY! i couldn't have been more happy.

oh, i forgot to mention - hott short boy was on the team. yes, my future husband. i couldn't get over that he was 5'8. ehhh so short, but he was so cute. we talked the whole time during the game and he didn't seem so shallow anymore and i was quickly forgetting about his tall friend.

we hit it right off and went to the mall that night with a few friends. after that, we started hanging out alllll the time. then it was pretty much history. minus him telling my roommate he didn't like me because he didn't want "the game" to be over, minus me making him wait like a month and a half to kiss me after we were already "offical" and him, and minus me breaking up with him for like an hour because i freaked out about being "serious" with someone. i was a total sissy.

long story short - (even though it's still pretty long) he proposed on may 30th 2009 (4 days after he said i love you for the first time) and we were married on august 28th 2009 in the washington dc temple. the end.

sike!

that was just the beginning. and being married is freaking the bomb dot com. i love it. i never thought being married would be so fun and rewarding. always have 100% support from someone, knowing that they always have your back no matter what is the best feeling. knowing that i can confide in him no matter how silly it is, whether it is expressing my fears about motherhood, or a zit on my face that i cry about. dev is my rock. i laugh alllll the time and i can get real sassy to him all the time too, ha! marriage is not a bouquet of roses every single day but it's always a kick in the pants.

he's the one i try to look pretty for and he's my partner in crime when we try to light our farts on fire (tmi?). it doesn't hurt that he's so dang cute either :) i'm sure glad i got over my whole thing about him being short, huh? then we made a cute little human- the pig.

so, my whole fear about being married - what was i thinking? i wish we hadn't wasted so much time just being "the library girl" and "the player." we could have gotten married a long time before and had more babies by now! haha alright, im glad everything worked out the way it did and we had the experiences we did. it would not have been the right timing and we wouldn't be the couple we are today if we hadn't gone through all of that.

i love being rookies at this whole married thing. i love not knowing what we are doing. it's pretty great.
